  1. 01

    History & legacy

    The house, its origin.

Susana Balbo graduated as a winemaker in 1981, the first woman in the country to do so. She worked in Salta, where she became a global pioneer of fine Torrontés, and then in Mendoza with Catena Zapata. In 1999 she founded her own winery in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo. Today she chairs Wines of Argentina and is an international reference. Her children José and Ana lead the new generation: BenMarco (José) and Crios (the original range) widened the portfolio to a broader audience without losing its identity.

  2. 02

    Terroir & vineyards

    The place makes the wine.

The winery works vineyards in Agrelo (limestone soils, 950 m), Paraje Altamira and Gualtallary (Uco Valley, 1,100–1,350 m), and Cafayate (Salta, 1,700 m) for the Torrontés. That geographic diversity allows distinct wines: elegant Malbec from Luján, structured Cabernet Franc from Uco and Torrontés with the very high-altitude identity of Salta. It's a portfolio that travels Argentina from the Andes to the puna.

  3. 03

    Architecture & visit

    The space where it happens.

The building in Agrelo is intimate and residential, far from the monumental. Small, with gardens, fountains and a restaurant of the highest level — Osadía de Crear, run by her daughter Ana — where the food is designed in direct dialogue with each wine. It feels like a family home rather than an industrial winery.

  4. 04

    Recognition

    Awards & reviews.

Susana Balbo received the International Winemaker of the Year award from The Drinks Business in 2015. The Osadía de Crear restaurant appears recurrently on lists of the world's best winery restaurants. Her fine wines score consistently between 92 and 95 points in publications such as Wine Spectator, Decanter and James Suckling.

Frequently asked

Before you go.

Does Susana Balbo host the visits personally?

On special occasions yes, above all at dinners and VIP events. The standard visit is led by the winemaking team, all trained directly by her.

How much does lunch at Osadía de Crear cost?

The paired tasting menu sits in the fine-dining tier. Vito Wine Tours handles the booking and the coordination of the day — we quote it according to your date and group.

Is it a better visit for foodies than for wine specialists?

It's excellent for both. But the restaurant raises the food to the level of the wine, which makes it one of the best options in Mendoza for foodies.

Is her Torrontés from Cafayate or from Mendoza?

From Cafayate, Salta. Susana pioneered Salta Torrontés and makes it at 1,700 metres. The Crios Torrontés range is the variety's best-known ambassador in the world.

Do you combine Susana Balbo with Catena Zapata?

It's the classic combination we build in Luján de Cuyo: Catena in the morning (more technical, more architectural), Susana at midday with lunch (more intimate, more gastronomic). A day of complete excellence.
