Iconic winery · Uco Valley
Bodega Salentein is one of the most complete visits in Mendoza. Its main building — an underground four-armed cross with a central nave where the barrels are arranged almost sacredly — is one of the most photographed pieces of winery architecture in Argentina. But Salentein is more than architecture: it has a contemporary art gallery (Killka), a high-altitude restaurant and consistently elegant wines that make the day a complete experience.

01
History & legacy
The house, its origin.
Bodega Salentein was founded in 1996 by the Dutch businessman Mijndert Pon. His vision: to build an icon winery in the Uco Valley combining wine, art and culture. The name comes from a Dutch castle belonging to the Pon family. Today the winery is one of Mendoza's most complete wine-tourism hubs, with an art gallery, a chapel, an inn (Posada Salentein) and a restaurant.

Terroir & vineyards
The place makes the wine.
Salentein's vineyards spread across four estates (San Pablo, Los Árboles, La Pampa and El Oasis) at altitudes from 1,050 to 1,700 metres. That diversity lets Salentein produce everything from taut high-altitude Chardonnay to Malbec of great structure. The soils are alluvial with limestone stones and the influence of the Andes is direct: dry mountain wind and marked temperature swings.

Architecture & visit
The space where it happens.
Salentein's main building is a cathedral of wine: an underground four-armed cross with a central nave lit from above, where the barrels are laid out in sacred order. It's among the most photographed winery architecture in Argentina. Killka, the adjoining cultural centre, houses a contemporary art gallery curated to museum standard.

Posada Salentein, its boutique hotel, regularly receives hospitality awards from magazines such as Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure.
Frequently asked
Before you go.
How much time does the full visit take?
The full experience (tour, the Killka gallery, a private tasting and lunch) takes around 4 hours. With transfers from the city of Mendoza, the whole day runs 8 to 9 hours.
What is Killka like, and is it worth it?
Killka is Salentein's cultural centre: a contemporary art gallery, an elegant café and a restaurant. The exhibitions are of museum quality and rotate regularly. It's absolutely worth it.
Is there accommodation at the winery?
Yes: Posada Salentein, a 16-room boutique hotel among the vineyards, with Andes views and a spa. Vito Wine Tours can arrange the stay.
Is it accessible for people with reduced mobility?
Killka and the main tasting room are accessible. The underground barrel nave has stairs, but there are alternative accessible routes. Let us know when booking and we'll arrange it.
What sets Salentein apart from other Uco Valley wineries?
It's the most complete offering in the region: wine, contemporary art, signature cuisine and luxury accommodation in one place. Few wineries in the world offer that complete cultural package.
