Travel guide
Flights, ideal dates, accommodation, wineries and experiences. Everything you need to plan your getaway.

A long-weekend getaway from Buenos Aires to Mendoza can be the best gift of the year — or a rushed trip where you get to nothing. The difference is in how you plan it.
This guide is for travellers from Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Rosario and anywhere in Argentina who want to cross the country and experience Mendoza at the level it deserves. We wrote it from the perspective of people who host these travellers every week.
How many days you really need
The viable minimum: 3 days, 2 nights. You arrive Friday evening, wineries on Saturday, the Andes or more wineries on Sunday, and fly back Sunday night. Tight, but it works.
The ideal: 4 days, 3 nights. You add a full day, which opens up the Uco Valley (it needs a day of its own because of the distances).
For couples or anniversaries: 5 days. That allows Luján, Maipú, Uco, a spa or mountain day, and one quiet day.
Flights: when and how
Aerolíneas Argentinas, Flybondi and JetSmart cover the Buenos Aires–Mendoza route daily. The flight takes roughly 2 hours.
Key tip: Thursday evening and Friday morning flights fill up first. Book 4 to 6 weeks ahead for high season (October to April, and harvest).
Arriving at the airport: El Plumerillo (MDZ) is 20 minutes from downtown. We arrange private transfers from the plane to your accommodation with no waiting.
Where to stay
If you want a premium urban base: Park Hyatt Mendoza, on Plaza Independencia. A restored colonial building, the Grill Q restaurant, a spa and an unbeatable location. Walking distance to the city's best restaurants.
If you want boutique among the vines: Cavas Wine Lodge in Luján de Cuyo (Relais & Châteaux) — private casitas with their own plunge pools and Andes views. Probably the most romantic thing in Mendoza.
If you want the Uco Valley itself: The Vines Resort & Spa or Casa de Uco — waking up with the Andes in your window changes the whole experience.
If you're on a mid-range budget: Diplomatic Hotel, Sheraton Mendoza or boutique properties in Chacras de Coria.
The regions: real distances from downtown
Maipú — 20 to 30 minutes. The cradle of Argentine wine. Century-old wineries with stone cellars. Ideal for starting out and understanding the history.
Luján de Cuyo — 30 to 45 minutes. The land of Malbec. Catena Zapata, Susana Balbo, Trapiche, Casa Vigil. The region for a full day of top wineries.
Uco Valley — 1.5 to 2 hours. High-altitude wines, cinematic views and new-generation wineries (Zuccardi Valle de Uco, Salentein, Andeluna). It needs a full day of its own.
A suggested 4-day itinerary
Day 1 (Thursday or Friday): arrival, hotel check-in and dinner at Azafrán or Anna Bistró in the city.
Day 2: a private tour of Luján de Cuyo — three wineries, a gourmet lunch and back by sunset. A light dinner in the city.
Day 3: a private tour of the Uco Valley. Out at 9:00, back at 18:00. A full, wonderful day. A quiet dinner.
Day 4: a morning in Maipú or the Andes (the High Mountain route), lunch and the flight home in the afternoon.
What to book versus what to organise yourself
Book with us: private winery tours (the bookings are complex and many wineries don't take walk-ins), airport transfers and tables at the top restaurants.
Organise yourself: hotel, flights, which nights you eat out and which at the hotel, and walks around the city.
Mistakes to avoid
Trying to do all three regions in two days — impossible and exhausting.
Going to Mendoza and drinking only Malbec — the region makes sublime Cabernet Franc, Bonarda and Chardonnay.
Getting between wineries by ride-hailing apps — many are in rural areas with no coverage. A private driver is essential.
Booking tours right before the trip — boutique wineries don't take last-minute reservations.
